چکیده

The prevailing theory for the origin of cosmic magnetic fields is that they have been amplified to their present values by the turbulent dynamo inductive action in the protogalactic and galactic medium. Up to now, in calculation of the turbulent dynamo, it has been customary to assume that there is no back reaction of the magnetic field on the turbulence, as long as the magnetic energy is less than the turbulent kinetic energy. This assumption leads to the kinematic dynamo theory. However, the applicability of this theory to protogalaxies is rather limited. The reason is that in protogalaxies the temperature is very high, and the viscosity is dominated by magnetized ions. As the magnetic field strength grows in time, the ion cyclotron time becomes shorter than the ion collision time, and the plasma becomes strongly magnetized. As a result, the ion viscosity becomes the Braginskii viscosity. Thus, in protogalaxies the back reaction sets in much earlier, at field strengths much lower than those which correspond to fieldturbulence energy equipartition, and the turbulent dynamo becomes what we call the magnetized turbulent dynamo. In this paper we lay the theoretical groundwork for the magnetized turbulent dynamo. In particular, we predict that the magnetic energy growth rate in the magnetized dynamo theory is up to ten time larger than that in the kinematic dynamo theory. We also briefly discuss how the Braginskii viscosity can aid the development of the inverse cascade of magnetic energy after the energy equipartition is reached. Observed Faraday Effects in Damped Lyα Absorbers and Lyman Limit Systems: The Magnetized Environment of Galactic Building Blocks at Redshift=2

Protogalactic environments are typically identified using quasar absorption lines and can manifest as Damped Lyman-alpha Absorbers (DLAs) and Lyman Limit Systems (LLSs). We use radio observations of Faraday effects to test whether these galactic building blocks host a magnetized medium, by combining DLA and LLS detections with 1.4 GHz polarization data from the NRAO VLA Sky Survey (NVSS). We ob...

Magnetic flux concentrations from dynamo-generated fields

Context. The mean-field theory of magnetized stellar convection gives rise to two distinct instabilities: the large-scale dynamo instability, operating in the bulk of the convection zone and a negative effective magnetic pressure instability (NEMPI) operating in the strongly stratified surface layers. The latter might be important in connection with magnetic spot formation. However, as follows ...

Subsurface Magnetized Source Layers underneath the Mare Crisium Observed by Lunar Radar Sounder

Introduction: It has been known that the moon currently has no internally generated magnetic field. However, the palaeomagnetic data of the Apollo return samples [1] showed a rapid increase in intensity around 3.9-3.6 Ga to a value of ~100 μT [2,3]. Many speculations have been reported linking these data to the lunar dynamo theory [2,4,5]. [5] proposed that transient increase in core heat flux,...

Global galactic dynamo driven by cosmic-rays and exploding magnetized stars

We report first results of first global galactic-scale CR-MHD simulations of cosmicray-driven dynamo. We investigate the dynamics of magnetized interstellar medium (ISM), which is dynamically coupled with the cosmic-ray (CR) gas. We assume that exploding stars deposit small-scale, randomly oriented, dipolar magnetic fields into the differentially rotating ISM, together with a portion of cosmic ...
